If you just want to leave your system wide open with glaring security
holes (as per sendmail's reputation) why not just set roots
password[1] to "secret"? Or advertise it in /etc/issue.net?

Its much easier this way, isn't it?

Any hacker knows that if you were really serious about writing a proxy
server, you would write it in MS-DOS batch file format.

[1] it goes without saying that you definitely should not do any of
the following: install UML jail, install SE-Linux, or mount / with NFS
from read-only server, as these will only give the appearance of a
system wide open to attack, when in actual fact it is secure.
